THIRTY NINE, Monte Carlo
Launched in Autumn 2016, THIRTY NINE • Monte Carlo, is Monaco’s first ever wellness-focused private members club. Arranged over three floors spanning nearly 20,000 sq ft / 1,860 m2 the club offers a relaxed lounge space, a private dining restaurant, two outdoor terraces, spa and beauty wing with treatment rooms and a vast 7,500 sq ft / 700m2 gym.
Our client, international rugby player Ross Beattie, has challenged the notion of a lifestyle club, and created a private member’s club with a philosophy focused on health and wellbeing. We supported Ross in bringing his dream to life through the interior architecture, interior design and bespoke furnishing of this exceptional project.
We brought a metropolitan design style to the Riviera, balancing the opulence and glamour of Monegasque culture with a contemporary elegance appealing to an international clientele. Set behind the building’s bold 1960’s façade, hints of art deco are fused with grand furnishings and luxurious finishes, whilst a strong sense of craftsmanship is evident throughout.
The majestic double height entrance hallway showcases the Grace Chandelier, a striking installation created by glass couturier Lasvit and with the concept defined by Morpheus. The eight feet long glass constellation has been designed to honour the past, present and future of Monaco and is inspired by Princess Grace’s wedding bouquet – a delicate arrangement of Lily of the Valley, ribbons and sprigs.
The design for each area of the club has been carefully considered, with every care given to the comfort and style of the user. The restaurant was designed to reflect a chic, contemporary environment with a ‘bistro’ feel, featuring deep shades of handcrafted woods, decadent bronze and glass, whilst elegant mirrors and grey veined marble create a sense of light and space. Tables are flanked by coastal blue shades, inspired by the Mediterranean Sea, while a curated collection of art-work offers accents of colour.
The social hub of the club, the lounge, provides a comfortable, more masculine environment, reminiscent of a traditional gentleman’s club, with low seating swaddled in rich fabrics and soft leathers creating a cocoon of relaxed luxury.
The gym is set to champion innovation in fitness and combines world-class facilities, with special consideration given to the optimum layout of the floor space, and including a pro-cycling team spin room and hypoxic chamber for altitude training.
Natural woods, smooth tactile leathers and accents of bronze feature heavily in the four treatment rooms. The ladies changing area has been designed to resemble a lounge space, with banquette seats set against a backdrop of soft beige marble, polished plaster, intricate joinery, bespoke mirrors and further bronze detailing. In contrast, the men’s changing area incorporates a strong masculine edge with dark leathers and deep navy throughout.
